  14.                     Nay, no closed doors for me,     
  15.                     But open doors and open hearts and glee
  16.                     To welcome young and old.
  17.  
  18.                     Dimmest and brightest month am I;
  19.                          My short days end, my lengthening days begin;
  20.                     What matters more or less sun in the sky
  21.                          When all is sun within?

  23.                     [December begins making a wreath as he sings.]

  25.                     Ivy and privet, dark as night,
  26.                          I weave with hips and haws a cheerful show,
  27.                     And holly for a beauty and delight,
  28.                          And milky mistletoe.

  30.                     While high above them all I set
  31.                          Yew twigs and Christmas roses pure and pale;
  32.                     Then Spring her snowdrop and her violet
  33.                          May keep, so sweet and frail;
  34.                     May keep each merry singing bird,
  35.                          Of all her happy birds that singing build:
  36.                     For I've a carol which some shepherds heard
  37.                          Once in a wintry field.
